2026 CCA Economic Summit
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2026 Economic Summit, hosted by the Calgary Construction Association. It was a strong, engaged discussion focused on the economic forces shaping Calgary’s construction industry in 2026 and beyond.
The summit brought together provincial and municipal leaders alongside Alberta’s top economic insights, with conversations centred on workforce and labour market pressures, capital investment, city-building priorities, major project delivery, and the municipal infrastructure deficit.
Laura Adkins-Hackett, Chief Labour Economist with the Government of Alberta, provided a timely labour market and workforce outlook, examining workforce availability, demand pressures, and how labour dynamics are evolving as population growth and project activity continue to accelerate.
Michael Thompson, General Manager of Infrastructure Services at the City of Calgary, spoke to Calgary’s capital investment priorities, including the City’s annual capital project spend now totaling $3.7 billion, and how infrastructure planning and delivery are being approached in light of the municipal infrastructure deficit and recent watermain challenges.
