Working in Extreme Heat
Remember that taking heat stress seriously and following preventive measures can significantly reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses. If you or any of your co-workers experience symptoms of heat stress, don’t hesitate to seek medical attention immediately. Stay safe and take care during the extreme heat in Calgary or any other location where you might be working outdoors. Working in Extreme Heat

David Parker: Calgary Construction Association’s new Members Centre aims to unite local industry
via Calgary Herald by David Parker Bill Black, president and COO, and Frano Cavar, director of government relations with the Calgary Construction Association, at the company’s renovated head office. PHOTO BY COURTESY, CALGARY CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATION /Postmedia Network One of the biggest casualties of the pandemic was the loss of face-to-face communication, resulting in fewer opportunities to share business gossip in a relaxed manner. Telephoning, emailing, texting and Zooming with others was remarkably efficient in getting information out, but lacking was the casual in-person camaraderie in which people are able to garner knowledge not usually discussed on tighter schedules. The Calgary Construction Association...
CCA Advocacy Update- Q2 2023
Building on the success of our previous quarter, the Calgary Construction Association has been actively advocating to both the City of Calgary and Government of Alberta on the issues that matter to you, our members. We’re working hard to raise the profile of our industry with decision makers and in the media, while ensuring that your voice is heard. Here is a summary of our activities in the second quarter of 2023. Expansion of our Provincial Presence As in the previous quarter, a strategic goal of ours this quarter was to continue to expand our Provincial presence. This was...
CCA Appeared Before the Multisport Fieldhouse Committee
Yesterday, Bill Black and Frano Cavar appeared before the Multisport Fieldhouse Committee. We are pleased to see the committee move forward and vote in favour of proceeding with the design phase of this critical civic amenity. To ensure success, Bill spoke about the importance of having our industry involved early on in the process – and how alternative project delivery models and approaches can be beneficial in preventing cost overruns and scope creep, especially on significant and complex public infrastructure projects like the fieldhouse. #Calgary #Construction #Project #Delivery #FieldHouse #Civic #Infrastructure #Jobs #Economy #Alberta\ https://youtu.be/IM0X-vDfFo4
Dedication of Calgary Construction Association Member Centre
Yesterday, we officially dedicated the new Calgary Construction Association Member Centre. We’re proud to carry on the legacy of hard work and dedication built into this space over the decades and look forward to seeing it used as a gathering place and hub for Calgary’s construction industry. We were humbled to have Elder Charlie Crowchild and Nation Helper David Meguinis from Tsuut’ina Nation offer a blessing and a prayer. The blessing was particularly poignant as the new space recognizes the ancestral home of the Treaty 7 Peoples with a permanent land acknowledgement. We know that true reconciliation requires active and...
CCA Scholarship Luncheon
Last week, we had the privilege of hosting a reception lunch to award this year’s recipients of the Calgary Construction Association Member’s Scholarship and the Women in Construction Scholarship. This year is special, as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Calgary Construction Association Education Fund. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we awarded 25 scholarships, each valued at $2500, to exceptional individuals in Calgary’s construction industry. We are immensely proud to invest in the future of our industry by supporting these deserving recipients. Their passion, dedication, and commitment to excellence embody the values that drive Calgary’s construction industry forward. By...
Tools for Schools
Just two weeks ago, we had the privilege of being at the Alberta Wall and Ceiling Association‘s annual golf tournament. Through the generosity of golfers and sponsors, new and used tools were collected. Last week we dropped the load of much-needed tools off at Forest Lawn Highschool. Forest Lawn Highschool has one of the largest shop classes in Calgary and sees 150 students pass through it each year. A big thank you to the Alberta Wall and Ceiling Association for allowing us to be part of this great initiative!
