Bearspaw South Feeder Main Reinforcement Project Update #2 (March 12, 2026)
Water demand status
- Yesterday, total water demand was 489 million litres, once again putting us in the Green Zone where the drinking water system can meet demand with the feeder main out of service.
- Staying in the Green Zone continues to support safe system operations while we rely primarily on the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant.
- We thank everyone for their great work so far and ask them to continue water saving measures until the feeder main is back in service.
Repair status and schedule
- Excavation continues across all work areas to prepare pipe segments for reinforcement.
- Crews are installing trench boxes around exposed sections of pipe.
- Additional feeder main–related work is underway along 33 Avenue N.W. and 83 Street N.W., where crews are completing valve repairs and preparing the area for the future connection of the new steel feeder main.
- Draining water from one final section of pipe is planned to continue into the weekend.
- Reinforcement construction continues to be on schedule.
- Traffic changes are in place near active work areas, and drivers should continue to expect delays and plan ahead when travelling through the area.
Looking ahead
- Continued water conservation is critical to maintain system stability while relying primarily on the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant.
- Staying in the Green Zone depends on continued conservation by residents and businesses, and we will continue to encourage Calgarians and our neighbours to keep taking steps to save water.
- Daily monitoring and updates will continue as excavation progresses and reinforcement work ramps up.
- The next media availability will be Monday, March 16 at 2 p.m.

Key messages (to share with your networks)
- Stage 4 Outdoor Water restrictions are currently in effect and we’re asking everyone to reduce their indoor water use while reinforcement work is underway on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.
- For approximately the next three and a half weeks, we need to keep overall water use below 500 million litres per day. Staying within this “green zone” helps ensure there is enough water for essential daily living, emergency response and critical services city-wide.
- We’re asking residents to continue saving water by focusing on a few simple, high impact actions:
- Keep showers to three minutes or less
- Flush toilets only when necessary
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
- Every action counts. When everyone does their part, we can protect the water system and get through this reinforcement period safely.
- Help show your customers and staff that your business is doing its part to save water. Visit our resource section below to download a Save Water poster you’re welcome to display during the feeder main reinforcement period.
