Non-potable Water Distribution Communication to Construction Partners- June 20th, 2024

To support you and Calgary’s construction industry, we are going to open two locations on the Bow River to provide non-potable water for construction work.

Location of sites

Location: North Site: West Baker Park Boat Launch: 4320, Bow River Pathway

Starting June 20, 2024

Time 2 PM (when fully operational – from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.)

Location: South Site: Ogden Boat Launch: 3303, Bow River Pathway

Starting June 21, 2024

Time TBC (when fully operational – from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.)

This water will be free of charge. If users have a truck mounted Meter Assembly (MA) box from The City of Calgary they will have to disconnect this device before getting this non-potable water to avoid being charged for this water. The MA will need to re re-inspected by The City prior to resuming regular use.

It will be the responsibility of the end user to ensure that water is appropriate for its intended application.

Please note we will be collecting information at the site. We will be asking for:

  1. Company name
  2. License plate of the vehicle and of the trailer if applicable
  3. Intended use of the water; and
  4. Estimated volume of water filled

For projects to qualify for access they must be related to a City of Calgary Capital Projects, or new development (residential/commercial/industrial) under an approved permit or agreement with the City, and Hydrant Connection Unit Agreements.

This is open to Contractor who are working on projects which require dust control, compacting of dirt or gravel surfaces and establishing new city landscaping.

The water is non-potable, not safe for drinking, and only to be used for construction and landscaping activities.

The City is working on additional options for providing non-potable water and we will communicate details as they are available.

As we are trying this for the first time, we will work with our construction partners to optimize this program.

If you have questions, please call 311.
