Statement from the Calgary Construction Association on the Canada-Alberta Housing Infrastructure Agreement

CALGARY, AB — The Calgary Construction Association (CCA) welcomes the agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta to invest in water and wastewater infrastructure that will help enable new housing across the province.

This partnership represents an important step toward addressing one of the most significant barriers to housing growth: the critical infrastructure needed to support new communities, new homes, and continued population growth. With more than $510 million in federal funding available through the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund, alongside up to $428 million in provincial funding for qualifying projects, this investment has the potential to unlock meaningful housing capacity in growing municipalities across Alberta while addressing infrastructure deficits.

We are encouraged to see both orders of government aligning around the need to build more homes and support the infrastructure required to make that possible. Housing does not get built in isolation. New homes require relevant infrastructure such as reliable water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, utilities, and community infrastructure to support complete, livable neighbourhoods. Investments like this set a strong precedent and are essential to helping municipalities keep pace with growth, improve affordability, and create the conditions for builders to deliver homes Albertans need.

This agreement is also a positive signal for Calgary’s construction industry. Housing-enabling infrastructure supports construction jobs, skilled trades, engineering, suppliers, contractors, and local businesses throughout project delivery. It helps attract private investment, supports economic development, and ensures communities have the capacity to grow responsibly and sustainably.

As Calgary and Alberta continue to welcome new residents and faces increasing demand for both market and affordable housing, investments in core infrastructure will be critical to building faster and building better. The Calgary construction industry stands ready to help deliver the projects that support new housing, strengthen communities, and contribute to Alberta’s long-term prosperity.

We look forward to continued collaboration with government, municipalities, Indigenous communities, public partners, and industry stakeholders to ensure this funding leads to real, on-the-ground results for Calgary, Alberta, and the people who call this province home.
