Statement from the Calgary Construction Association on Undocumented Workers on Calgary Construction Sites
The Calgary Construction Association (CCA) is aware of recent reports concerning investigations by the Canadian Border Services Agency into potential undocumented workers on local construction sites.
We want to be clear: the use of undocumented labour is illegal and unacceptable. It undermines the integrity of our industry, exposes workers to unsafe conditions, and creates unfair competition for legitimate contractors and tradespeople who follow the law.
The CCA acknowledges and appreciates the valued contributions that immigrants and newcomers make to Calgary’s construction industry. Many have chosen construction as their pathway to building a new life in Canada—bringing skill, dedication, and a strong work ethic to our city’s growth. These contributions, however, must always occur within the framework of Canadian law, ensuring that every worker is properly documented, trained, and protected under national labour and safety standards.
We continue to work closely with all levels of government and industry partners to uphold accountability, compliance, and integrity across our industry—while ensuring that new Canadians have all the support they need for proper documentation, and that Calgary continues to be built by a safe, skilled, and law-abiding workforce.
