Honour the Work

Building Futures, Transforming Lives

The CCA & Honour the Work

In partnership with Honour the Work, the CCA introduces STEAMS Kits (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics, and Skills) for grades 1-6 students in Calgary schools.

These kits provide hands-on activities that connect classroom learning to real-world trades, fostering an inclusive and engaging educational environment.

The Calgary Construction Association has partnered with the Calgary Catholic School District and the Calgary Board of Education to bring STEAMS kits to classrooms in Fall 2024.

What is Honour the Work?

Honour the Work is a charitable organization dedicated to reshaping perceptions and increasing awareness of skilled trades careers among elementary students, teachers, and parents.

By providing hands-on, multidisciplinary STEAMS Kits (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics, and Skills) for grades 1-6, Honour the Work connects classroom learning to real-world applications in skilled trades.

This initiative is crucial as it addresses the skilled trades labor shortage, challenges societal biases, and inspires the next generation to consider fulfilling and essential careers in the trades.

STEAMS Kits Explained

The STEAMS Kits are innovative educational tools designed for students in grades 1-6.

These kits include:

  • Hands-On Activities: Engaging projects
that connect classroom learning to real-world
    skilled trades.
  • Comprehensive Lesson Plans: Detailed guides
    that align with curricular expectations.
  • Digital Resources: Interactive and multimedia
    content to enhance learning.
  • Building Materials: Practical supplies for
    hands-on construction and engineering tasks.
  • Diverse Children’s Books: Literature that
    highlights various skilled trades, promoting
    inclusivity and diversity

The Future We’re Building

Learning from Honour the Work’s successful pilot in Ontario, we at the CCA have committed to launching this initiative in Calgary schools this fall.

In the 2024-2025 school year, we will bring the program to 800 classrooms in Calgary, impacting over 30,000 students.

With your help, we look forward to expanding beyond this in future years, reaching even more students and communities.

We Need Your Help! Donate Today

To continue the success of the Honour the Work program, we are seeking donations and partnerships to expand its reach and impact in Alberta.

By supporting this initiative, you can help create a generational shift in the perception of skilled trades, empower educators, and provide hands-on learning experiences for thousands of students across Canada. Your involvement will contribute to addressing the skilled trades labor crisis and ensuring a sustainable talent pipeline for the future.
