Supplying the Future

Putting surplus materials to work in high school shop programs across Calgary.

Supplying the Future

Every year, usable materials leave jobsites. At the same time, school shop programs are stretching limited budgets to give students hands-on experience.

Supplying the Future connects those two realities.

We work with industry to redirect surplus materials into high school shops, where they are used to teach real skills, on real materials, in real learning environments.

About the Program

Students learn by building, cutting, measuring, wiring, and solving problems. Materials make that possible.

When shops have access to quality materials:

  • Students get hands-on experience that reflects real jobsite conditions
  • Teachers can run stronger, more relevant programming
  • Industry connects earlier to the future workforce

This is a simple way to strengthen the workforce pipeline, starting in the classroom.

What can you contribute?

We are looking for usable, safe, and relevant materials that can support hands-on learning.

Examples include:

  • Lumber and wood products
  • Drywall and interiors materials
  • Shingles
  • Mechanical and electrical components
  • Fasteners, fittings, and hardware
  • Surplus or discontinued stock

If you are not sure if something fits, reach out.

How it works

  1. You identify materials. This could include surplus, leftover, or unused materials from your projects or inventory
  2. We coordinate with schools to match materials to shop programs based on need
  3. Materials go directly to classrooms where teachers and students put them to use
