CAREERS helps employers connect with high school youth for paid internships across a range of in-demand fields, including facilitating the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP). In the Calgary Foothills region, employers can access pre-screened students, support with coordination, and funding options that help make placements easier to implement. Internships are typically 75 to 125 hours per semester, with flexibility for part-time school-year placements or full-time summer work. Youth aged 18-21 are also supported in connecting to full-time roles.

Training for entry into sustainable construction and retrofit work
Centre for Newcomer’s GBR programfocuses on preparing skilled newcomers for careers in sustainable construction, energy efficiency, and building retrofits, supporting both workforce development and the transition to a greener economy.
The program offers participants a 5-week training leading to micro-credential followed by a 100+ hours/4-week practicum and wage subsidy aimed at connecting them with meaningful employment.

Momentum’s Pre-Apprenticeship Training programs run six months and are open to individuals across Calgary. Current trades offerings include:
- Automotive and Heavy Duty Technician
- Carpentry
- Plumbing and Pipefitting
These programs help participants build practical skills, gain industry exposure, and move toward employment in the trades.
Momentum works with employers to build direct connections to candidates coming out of training programs. Opportunities include work placements, cohort-based hiring, and engagement activities like mock interviews and classroom involvement. Wage subsidy program supporting the hiring of internationally trained and newcomer talent into residential construction and renovation roles. Employers may receive up to 75% of wages (to a maximum of $22,500), along with additional funding for items like PPE, certifications, and transportation.
The program includes candidate matching and screening support through Parallèle Alberta, with placements ranging from 3 to 12 months in new full-time roles. Funding must be approved prior to hire.
