About Bill Black
Bill has been involved in the design and construction industry for nearly 4 decades in a broad variety of roles and industry segments. Through his diverse network of industry practitioners and thought leaders, he is a fixture in the CCA community and the industry at large. Bill is known for his ability to take all situations in stride, and uses his experience, and built-in resilience to motivate others to take on challenges through great teamwork and a strong focus on culture and values. Viewing humour as a powerful way to engage others, Bill is hands on and energetic in his approach and communication style. As a leader his goal is to help others find their true fit within their career path through a sense of team-based achievement, purpose and mastery.
Bill achieved his Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying from Napier University, and has held roles in the industry ranging from surveying and estimating to leadership and executive positions. He is a founding member of the Mindshift consortium and co-authored “The Commercial Real Estate Revolution”.
About Mary Swaffield
Mary joined the CCA team in 2018 filling the role of Manger, Events. With over 10 years in the event industry and as a CSEP (Certified Special Events Professional), her passion for details, logistics, and bringing people together is evident at each and every event she produces. Having evolved into the role of Sr. Director on our senior leadership team, Mary now brings her extensive experience in non-profits and associations to CCA, leading our Marketing & Communication, Education, Member Services, and Events programs. Her commitment to the member experience, industry best practices, and courageous conversations are appreciated by members and the CCA team alike.
Mary holds a Bachelor of Classical Music Performance from the University of Calgary and completed programs in Event Management and Digital Marketing at Mount Royal University. She has served on the Certification Committee with ILEA International, as Vice President of Programs & Education and Vice President of Membership with ILEA Calgary, and most recently as Vice Chair of Operations and Corporate Governance with ILEA Canada.
About Spencer Leiske
As a member of the senior leadership team at the CCA, Spencer is focused on bringing members together, helping them access information and providing them opportunities to reduce expenditures through the suite of CCA services that are currently offered. With a visionary approach to membership organizations and strong respect for helping local businesses, he spearheaded the launch of our Affinity Program, which provides members preferred rates with key product and service providers. Spencer leads our association development and Information Services teams as part of his role at the CCA.
Spencer holds a Bachelor of Commerce in marketing and worked previously in the oil and gas industry in Operations and Controls. He is also a former National Team Athlete in volleyball and brings tremendous passion and drive to the CCA team.
About Rob Cote
Rob is a passionate community builder in all areas of his life. Since joining the CCA in the role of Director of Membership, his has devoted himself to building meaningful relationships with our members and ensuring that the CCA is delivering value to members and the construction industry day after day. In addition to his commitment to member value, Rob also heads up our sponsorship program, working closely with internal and external partners to bring a meaningful return on investment for all involved. A lifelong volunteer and 11-year veteran of the Calgary Stampeders, he is the epitome of a team player – he places value not on individual results, but on the overall success of the CCA team and its’ members.
Rob holds a Bachelors degree in Commerce from the University of Calgary, and has been a volunteer for over 10 years the Calgary Hospice, where he is now an Ambassador.
About Terrence Patrick
Terrence brings a unique combination of hands-on construction industry experience as well as business and marketing experience to the CCA team. As the Director, Business Development, Terrence can often be found seeking opportunities to help our members succeed and grow their business through our many different services, including BuildWorks, networking events, educational courses, and our Affinity Program, while connecting the right member companies to create relationships in the industry. Terrence also manages the publication the annual CCA Constructor magazine. His grounded approach to creating maximum value for new members and his commitment to supporting the CCA team makes him an invaluable part of the CCA team.
Terrence holds a Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Mercyhurst University and an MBA from the University of Roehampton. Prior to joining the CCA team, he gained experience as a Field Operations Manager, Assistant Business Controls Manager, and Project Manager among other roles. He also played 3 seasons with the Calgary Stampeders, and 1 season with the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
About Adrian Nagle
Prior to joining the BuildWorks and CCA team, Adrian worked on the membership team at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. One of his core beliefs is that a strong business community is key to driving success and growth in our economy. His previous work with the Chamber of Commerce and now with the CCA has enabled Adrian to truly understand the value of member-based organizations, particularly the importance of being a resource, a support, a connector and an advocate to all areas of the construction industry.
Adrian has a Bachelor of Business Studies, Marketing (Honours) from the University of Limerick, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Ireland, Canada Centre for Commerce, which advocates to create more business opportunities between his two favorite countries.
About Kirsten Carson
Now on her second role in a construction-focused organization, Kirsten brings a broad view of the CCA’s offerings and a passion for strategic messaging to her work. Her commitment to communicating the latest in industry news, providing informative, relevant information and sharing the latest CCA initiatives ensures our members and external partners are always in the loop.
Kirsten received her Dr. of Acupuncture from the Alberta College of Acupuncture TCM and has taken numerous courses and certifications in marketing and social media. She is also a passionate volunteer with the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta and the Alberta Animal Rescue Society.
About Christine McKim
Christine joined the CCA team in 2018, originally filling the role of Executive Assistant to the President. Her exemplary skills in organization, details, and creative thinking quickly led to a transition to the position of Manager, Education, where she manages a robust education and professional development program focused on elevating the construction industry. Known for her immense drive and commitment to education, Christine brings a high level of energy and excitement to the CCA team.
Christine completed her Human Resource Management Certificate at the University of Calgary and her Event Planning Certificate from Mount Royal University. Christine is also a Commissioner of Oaths.
About Lena Hogarth
A member of the CCA team since 2017, Lena provides our members with exceptional customer service and support as part of our information services team. She is known for her exceptional attention to detail, quick problem-solving skills and willingness to support the team and our members in any capacity. With previous experience in software, project management and marketing/sales, Lena brings a broad depth of experience and knowledge to the CCA.
Lena completed her Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Lethbridge, and has previously held roles in administration analysis and project management.
About Aaron Vastenhout
Aaron has been a member of the CCA team since 2014. While many of our members may not see him as often as they do the rest of our team, it’s for a good reason: Aaron manages the day-to-day association finances and supports the organization with all financial processes and audit preparation. His attention to detail and incredible work-ethic are an invaluable asset to the CCA.
Aaron received his Bachelor of Applied Business Degree, Accounting from Mount Royal University in 2010 and previously worked for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
About Anne Blair
Anne is responsible for making sure that our members have access to all of the services and products that they need in their day-to-day business. She’s the backbone of much of what we do here at CCA – providing administrative and service support to our members and our team. From room rentals to assisting members with purchasing contracts, she’s our front-line support and often the first person you’ll meet when you come through our doors. Her unique ability to approach problems with creativity and efficiency is matched by her calm, reassuring demeanor, making her a tremendous asset to the CCA team.
Anne’s previous roles include office administration and accounting, Geological Wellsite Tech and Draftsperson. She holds Certificates in Petroleum Geological Application, Petroleum Computer Applications, Land Administrative, and has completed programs in Accounting, Topography and General Drafting.
