Calgary Construction Association Reaffirms Support for Event Centre and Build-out of Culture and Entertainment District; Cites Jobs, Project Certainty and Follow-On Investment.
Calgary, Alberta – The Calgary Construction Association reaffirms its support for the Event Centre and development of Calgary’s new culture and entertainment district. The Association believes that not only will the new event centre and build out of the Culture and Entertainment District enhance the entertainment options in the area but also provide significant economic benefits for the construction industry through jobs, project certainty, and follow-on investment.
The construction industry is poised to play a major role in bringing this new facility to life. According to estimates by the City of Calgary, over 4,750 construction jobs will be created during the construction phase of the Event Centre. Coupled with the build-out of the full culture and entertainment district, the Association believes that the projects will deliver both job and project certainty for thousands of Calgarians employed in the industry for up to ten years.
“Our members are excited about the opportunity to work on such a high-profile project and showcase the skills and expertise of our industry,” said Bill Black, President and COO of the Calgary Construction Association.
“The Event Centre and Culture and Entertainment District will employ thousands of Calgarians in the design and build industry in the coming years and into the next decade. Think of the architects, engineers, estimators, electricians, cement truck operators, sheet metal workers, drywallers, tapers, painters, project managers and more who will touch the Event Centre and the follow-on projects around it,” said Black.
As representatives for Calgary’s commercial construction industry, the Calgary Construction Association also believes that the new agreement’s approach of considering the entire district is paramount to the success and vision of the project. Through the Province of Alberta’s commitment to building necessary infrastructure and public realms improvements in the Culture and Entertainment District early in the process, the Association believes that the right ingredients are in place to spur further development of new hotels, restaurants, night clubs, multi-residential condominiums and other commercial projects in conjunction with the new Event Centre.
The Calgary Construction Association remains committed to promoting the construction industry and supporting the growth of the Calgary community. The new event centre is a prime example of how construction can play a vital role in creating economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for Calgarians.
