Calgary Construction Association Recognizes Red Tape Reduction Implementation Act As A Significant Step Forward in Addressing Public Procurement Issues

The Calgary Construction Association recognizes significant action by the Government of Alberta to address concerns around public procurement, specifically the application of prompt payment legislation to provincial projects.   Primarily, the recently passed Bill 9, the Red Tape Reduction Implementation Act, amends the Public Works Act to change the level of authority to make or amend regulations from Cabinet to the Minister of Infrastructure.   Moreover, the amendment extends prompt payment rules to the Government of Alberta projects. Earlier this week, a delegation from the Calgary Construction Association joined our colleagues from the Edmonton Construction Association to meet with provincial stakeholders and decision-makers from both sides of the party divide. The Calgary Construction Association was represented by our Board Chair, John Manes, President Bill Black, and the Director of Government Relations, Frano Cavar. Last week, Bill Black and Frano Cavar appeared before City Council’s new fieldhouse committee to voice our opinion on what a new fieldhouse could mean for Calgary – particularly within the context of city building, economic benefit, jobs, and of course, construction.
